Gastric Bypass

A gastric bypass is one of the procedures performed to treat obesity. Gastric bypass (restrictive-malabsorptive surgery or gastric reduction with bridging) is the most frequently performed procedure for obesity worldwide.

A gastric bypass procedure reduces the stomach in size, while the duodenum and part of the small intestine are diverted (bypass). You will eat less (restriction) because you are more quickly satiated, and moreover, the food will not be absorbed as well in your body (malabsorption). The combination of eating less and absorbing less results in weight loss.

After the procedures hormonal changes will also occur, which have a beneficial effect on the sugar metabolism, suppress the feeling of hunger and promote weight loss.
