Concussion or commotio in children

Concussion, also referred to as commotio, can be caused by a blow, fall or other (mild) force to the head. You may be unconscious for a while (max. a few minutes) after a concussion, and nausea or vomiting may also occur.

When should you consult a doctor?

  • If your child vomits several times in a row.
  • If your child is drowsy, sleepy or unresponsive.
  • If your child is younger than 1 year old and does not have a visible bump.
  • If your child has fallen from a reasonable height.
  • If your child also has other injuries from the fall.
