A hammer toe, claw toe or a mallet toe is a toe that takes on a different shape and actually resembles a small hammer in a piano.
The toe gradually becomes stiff, which causes difficulties fitting into many shoes. This gives rise to pain, calluses, and possibly wounds. These abnormalities evolve over the years and often occur in combination with other forefoot problems (hallux valgus, metatarsalgia, etc.).
Your doctor will discuss the treatment options with you.
