Disease

Rotavirus

Rotavirus causes severe loose stools.

Rotavirus infection is most common in the colder months, from November to April. The disease can be very mild, especially since people are vaccinated against Rotavirus. In some children, the infection leads to diarrhoea, vomiting and fever. The disease usually resolves spontaneously, after 4 to 10 days. Dehydration requires treatment and sometimes hospitalisation.
