Surgical treatment of runners' knee

On rare occasions, surgery is indicated. The tendon blade that rubs against the outside edge of the knee is surgically lengthened, causing less irritation.

After this procedure, two crutches and a compressive bandage are recommended for about two weeks, since swelling and bleeding after the procedure are not uncommon.
