Since 31 December 2024, legislation regarding smoking in public buildings has become much stricter. At Jan Yperman Hospital, we have chosen to go even a step further than the law. Our campuses are completely smoke-free, starting from the parking areas, except in designated smoking areas.
The decision to make our hospital smoke-free aligns with our commitment to keep our patients as healthy as possible. As a healthcare organisation, we have an important role to set an example.
Therefore, as from 2025, designated smoking areas are available at Jan Yperman Hospital (Ieper campus), where smoking is still permitted (and only there): at the end of the care street near the hospital shop, near the emergency and staff entrance, and temporarily in the central patio of the hospital. In this patio, the smoking area is considerably smaller than before. The Diksmuide and Poperinge campuses are completely smoke-free.
