Cataract surgery with lens implantation

Surgery is the only effective treatment for cataracts. The decision for surgery is mainly determined by the patient's visual impairment and complaints.

The cataract surgery consists of 2 important parts:

  • Phacoemulsification: the lens is pulverised by means of ultrasonic vibrations (= with high tones, inaudible to humans). These tiny lens particles are immediately sucked out of the eye.
  • Lens implantation: once the lens is removed, an artificial lens is inserted in its place.
