Impingement syndrome

The term 'impingement' can refer to several joints of the body.

The word 'impingement' means 'collision, friction'. It comes from the latin root 'impingo', which means to strike against. The word impingement is used in orthopaedics for conditions in which a certain tissue structure collides with or clamps against another structure during certain movements.
