Arthroscopy for impingement

An arthroscopy (keyhole surgery) is used to insert a camera into the space below the acromion - where the problem is located.

The protruding part of the bone that causes the friction is removed. This is called an "acromioplasty". The inflamed bursa is also removed (bursectomy).

If the cause of impingement is located in the Ac-joint, keyhole surgery is used to solve the problem: the bone spurs are removed under laparoscopic view.

In cases where the rotator cuff is already torn, a tendon repair is performed during the same procedure via arthroscopy. The acromioplasty is then a part of the same procedure.
