Immunotherapy is a treatment that acts on the immune system, also known as the defence system. The treatment stimulates the immune system so that the patient’s own body fights the cancer cells.
Immunotherapy is not suitable for everyone. Only if certain receptors are present on the tumour, immunotherapy may be considered.
Immunotherapy is administered at the internal day hospital via an infusion, which will last for a maximum of 1 hour. After approval by your attending physician, you may leave the hospital. You can resume your daily activities (e.g. drive a car).
A blood sample will be taken at every immunotherapy appointment. Immunotherapy will only be administered if the blood results are approved by your treating doctor.
How often you need to come back is discussed with the treating doctor and the department.
