Laparoscopic ventral rectopexy (treatment of rectal prolapse)

The term 'rectopexy' refers to a procedure in which the rectum is suspended back to its normal anatomical position.

The procedure is performed under full anaesthesia. A laparoscopic technique (keyhole surgery) is used and takes about an hour and a half. A small incision is made above and to the right of the navel, a 3rd and 4th respectively in the right and left side and a 5th (slightly larger) incision in the right groin region.
