In case of insufficient improvement with medication and injections, and if the arthrosis is not too pronounced, the doctor may suggest an arthroscopy (keyhole surgery).
This allows a 'flushing' of the joint to be carried out, whereby the inflammatory tissue in the joint can be removed, any loose cartilage fragments can be removed and a thorough inspection of the joint can be carried out to assess the actual damage.
