During an arthroscopy (keyhole surgery), a camera is inserted into the joint through a small hole in the skin, and the deformities and the tough capsule are loosened.
In case of secondary frozen shoulder, the underlying provoking shoulder problem can be repaired and/or treated immediately during the arthroscopic procedure. It should be noted that the risk of stiffening after a simultaneous repair is much higher. It is sometimes necessary, after the treated injury has healed, to mobilise the shoulder again. Alternatively, the stiffening can be released first and repaired during another procedure.
