Treatment of upper jaw fractures

Fractures of the upper jaw can take on different proportions.

Fractures of the upper jaw are sometimes limited to the bone around the teeth, which may either be displaced or have become loose. In that case, the oral surgeon will return the teeth to their correct position and stabilise them using a metal brace that can be removed after a few weeks.

When the upper jaw is broken in another place, it may be necessary to reattach the fractures using plates and screws. To do so, a few incisions are made on the inside of the cheek and upper lip so that no visible scar is left at the level of the skin.
