Chronic lymphatic leukaemia (CLL)

SERVICE(S):

There are different types of treatment available for chronic lymphoblastic leukaemia (CLL). When choosing the treatment, the doctor-specialist will take into account the symptoms you are experiencing, your age, your general health and the stage of the disease.

On the basis of the stage, patients are classified into three risk groupslow, medium or high.

In low-risk CLL, the doctor initially chooses to wait and see in many cases: they recommend careful and regular monitoring without starting a specific treatment. If the symptoms increase, chemotherapy is usually recommended or a more targeted therapy or a combination of chemotherapy and targeted therapy.

The most common treatments for medium and high risk CLL are chemotherapy in combination with targeted therapy and (rarely) stem cell transplantation (SCT). Sometimes radiotherapy is applied.

In some cases, different treatments or combinations of treatments are possible. Your doctor will discuss the options with you.
