Tumour and oral cancer surgery

The Oral, Maxillofacial and Facial Surgeon is regularly confronted with a wide variety of malformations of the mucous membranes and the jawbone. The treatment depends on the nature (benign/malignant) of the abnormality.

Benign tumours

Fortunately, most lesions and growths in the head and neck area are harmless in nature and easily treatable with appropriate medication or minor surgery. Although these tumours are benign and do not spread, they often have to be removed. Otherwise, they may continue to grow until they become functionally disruptive or affect your appearance.

Malignant tumours (Mouth cancer)

These injuries should be treated in time and appropriately, otherwise they can quickly become larger and also metastasise, reducing your chances of recovery. The diagnosis and treatment of cancer is always in cooperation with other specialists. Surgery will often be suggested, as removal of the lesion offers a better prognosis than treatment with chemotherapy, for example.

The oral surgeon will always discuss such treatments in detail with you and sometimes also collaborate with the plastic surgeons for the recovery.
