If a keyhole examination (coloscopy) reveals polyps (growths of the intestinal mucosa) in the colon, these are immediately removed by means of a polypectomy.
Polyps vary in size and shape. Some polyps may slowly develop into colon cancer and are therefore removed as a precaution. The removal of a polyp is painless.
