Epidural adhesiolysis, or loosening of scar tissue after back surgery, is a treatment used to treat persistent leg pain (sciatica) after back surgery.
Scar tissue occurs in any normal healing process after injury or surgery. After back surgery, scar tissue can sometimes press on a nerve that runs to the leg, causing pain in that leg.
The aim of the treatment is to soften the scar tissue. In this way, an attempt is made to free up the affected nerve, with the intention of initiating a recovery.
