Alopecia areata (spot baldness)

Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease that causes patchy hair loss.

This mainly occurs on the scalp, but can also occur on other areas of the body where hair grows, such as eyebrows, beard area, armpits and pubic area. A side effect of getting alopecia areata is that your nails become damaged (onychia punctata).
