Abdominal aortic aneurysm (Aorta abdominalis)

An aneurysm is a widening of an artery. Normally, the artery in the abdomen is 2 to 2.5 cm wide. If the diameter is more than 3 cm, it is called an aneurysm. Aneurysms most often occur in the abdominal and iliac arteries, but can also develop in the chest, carotid or leg arteries.

Why am I developing an aneurysm?

Smoking is the main risk factor. Age, high blood pressure and cholesterol problems play an additional role. Lastly, family history is important too.
