The doctor applies some gel to the skin on the chest and moves a probe over it. The device sends sound waves through the skin tissue as it moves. These sound waves are reflected and processed into an image that can be viewed directly on the monitor.
The examination lasts for about 15 - 20 minutes and is completely painless.
The specialist at the hospital will receive the result. You can go back to him/her after the examination.
If a doctor or specialist outside the Jan Yperman Hospital requested the examination, you will receive a letter with a personal PIN code and instructions.
Please contact your treating doctor for more information.
