Disease

Plantar fasciitis (common overuse injury of the foot)

The plantar fascia is a set of muscles and ligaments that support the arch of the foot. Fasciitis is an inflammation of the tendon at the site where that structure attaches to the heel bone.

Typical symptoms include morning pains and first-step pains that gradually decrease afterwards, only to become more intense in the evening. The pain mainly occurs when applying pressure to the foot. This is sometimes accompanied by an X-ray finding of a 'heel spur'.
