Glaucoma is a disease of the eye that is usually associated with excessive pressure within the eye.
Glaucoma does not cause any symptoms in the early stages. Early recognition is needed, however, because untreated high eye pressure can lead to irreversible damage to the optic nerve and ultimately blindness. That is why it is necessary from the age of 40 to have a general eye check-up performed by an ophthalmologist.
