This examination assesses the blood flow and vitality of your heart muscle (myocardium) at rest and, if necessary, also during an effort.
This can show or rule out any regional irregularities in the blood flow caused by a narrowing of the coronary arteries. The contraction of the heart muscle is evaluated at the same time. This can show or rule out any regional or global irregularities in the contraction caused by an irregularity on the heart.
You are first administered a low dose of a radioactive substance. The radioactive substance (99Tc-MIBI) is absorbed by the heart muscle. The distribution of the radioactive substance can be seen with a gamma camera.
