Hoarseness

The vocal cords or vocal folds are located in the larynx and are caused to vibrate by the exhaled air. This is how we produce vocal sounds. If there are abnormalities in the vocal cords, this will affect the vocal sound we produce and the voice may sound hoarse. Voice problems can be caused by overload, incorrect use of the voice, smoking, infection, swelling, vocal cord paralysis, formation of a benign or malignant tumour in the vocal cords or poor general condition.
