Herpes is a highly contagious STD that can be identified by small, painful blisters on or in the anus, vagina, penis or buttock area. Herpes can also cause blisters in the mouth or on the lips. In addition to the typical blisters, both women and men often suffer from a burning or painful sensation when urinating.
If infected, the virus will remain in the body forever. After a week to 10 days, the symptoms have disappeared, but a flare-up of symptoms is still possible. It is recommended not to apply cream to the blisters, but to keep them dry.
