Shoulder instability

We speak of instability when the shoulder joint does not remain stable during all movements: the ball moves too far forward, upward or downward in relation to the socket. It can move so far that there is even a complete dislocation: this is what we call a luxation. If complete luxation does not occur, we use the term subluxation.

Treatments

The treatment of these injuries depends on the type of injury and the age at which the instability occurs. It also depends on whether the instability has occurred after a trauma or fall, or whether the instability has developed gradually, whether or not in persons with hyperlax joints.

Your doctor will discuss the treatment options with you.
