Disease

Medial collateral ligament injury

The medial band protects the inside of the knee. Together with the outer ligament and the cruciate ligaments, it is responsible for the stability of the knee. A side kick to your leg or a misaligned knee can cause injuries to the medial ligament. These injuries are common.

The pain is located on the inside of the knee. Steps, and especially lateral movements, can be painful. It is also often difficult to fully extend the knee for the first few days after this has happened. Sometimes, knee swelling occurs. In that case, further investigation is recommended, as this may indicate an injury to the knee joint itself.
