Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

PTSD is an anxiety disorder.

PTSD occurs when your fear persists after a traumatic event. Your body and mind are constantly alert to a danger that is no longer present. Your body is in tension, you are easily startled and you are alert. You can also quickly feel threatened and withdraw because of this. This puts you at risk of losing your grip on life.

In addition, you may suffer from reliving the trauma through nightmares or memories and you avoid feelings or things that remind you of the trauma.

Your doctor will discuss the treatment options with you.
