Sinusitis

Sinusitis is an inflammation or infection of the paranasal sinuses. Several sinuses are present within the skull. The sinuses are air-filled cavities in the skull next to and above the nose and eyes and in the upper jawbone and forehead.

The following symptoms are associated with sinusitis:

  • headache
  • facial pain and tenderness that worsens with bending
  • toothache when the maxillary sinuses are affected
  • yellow/green mucous or phlegm in the throat
  • nasal congestion
  • reduced odour

Acute sinusitis usually resolves within a few weeks, but the chronic form can last for months.
