The mucous membrane of the oral cavity and pharynx contains countless small ‘accessory’ salivary glands. In addition, three pairs of major salivary grands drain saliva into the oral cavity via an excretory duct. Various problems can arise with these salivary glands, for example an inflammation, benign or malignant swelling or obstruction of the excretory duct caused by a salivary stone.
Your doctor will discuss the treatment options with you.
