One of the most common disorders of the salivary glands is the mucous cyst or mucocoele, which usually originates from a small salivary gland on the inner aspect of the lower lip vermilion. Piercing such a cyst is entirely pointless, as it will grow back in no time. It is better to remove this cyst with minor surgery.
Salivary infections can usually be treated with medication. Sometimes, however, this requires surgery under local or even general anaesthetic.
Your doctor will discuss the treatment options with you.
