The anterior cruciate ligament is a major stabiliser of the knee. If the cruciate ligament ruptures, it can no longer perform its function. The main consequence is this is reduced stability in the knee.
This manifests itself in sagging and can eventually lead to wear and tear of the knee. The anterior cruciate ligament is therefore not only important for the stability of the knee, but also for protecting it and preventing damage.
