Wisdom teeth

Wisdom teeth are the teeth furthest back in the mouth. They usually erupt between the ages of 16 and 25.

When wisdom teeth erupt perfectly in the mouth, are easy to brush and do not cause any problems, they do not need to be removed. For many people, however, the eruption of wisdom teeth is unfavourable; there is not enough space or the tooth is in a position that makes it difficult to brush. Sometimes the teeth are already affected by cavities or inflammations when you are referred to the oral surgeon. Sometimes it is best to remove them before corrective jaw surgery.

Based on an oral examination and X-ray, the doctor can advise you as to whether or not it makes sense to remove the wisdom teeth and discuss whether this is best done under local or general anaesthetic.
