Pneumology (lung diseases)

This department consists of four specialists who are responsible on a daily basis for:

• Intensive monitoring of COPD and chronic bronchitis.
• Intensive monitoring of asthma.
• Diagnosis and treatment of allergies and lung diseases.
• Technical examinations with spirometry and lung function tests.
• Ergospirometry exercise test.
• Invasive techniques for diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of lung and thoracic cancers [Bronchoscopy and EBUS (endobronchial ultrasonography), transthoracic puncture under ultrasound and CT scan guidance].
• Indication and start of chronic oxygen therapy at home in the form of liquid oxygen or with oxygen concentrator.
• Diagnosis and management of lung infections and tuberculosis.
• Diagnosis and management of interstitial lung diseases (pulmonary fibrosis, sarcoidosis, extrinsic allergic alveolitis ... ).
• Sleep study for detection and diagnosis of sleep apnoea syndrome, initiation of chronic CPAP treatment at home.
• Supervision of respiratory rehabilitation in cases of lung disease or in preparation for and after lung transplantation and in cases of severe COPD.
