Sometimes a dental abscess can be treated with antibiotics, but the real cause of the problem (the tooth) often needs to be addressed too. This will often involve the dentist removing the nerve from your tooth. Sometimes it is necessary to make an incision in the abscess to allow the pus to drain off or to pull the tooth. This can be done at the oral surgeon's office.
