Reconstruction of the posterior cruciate ligament

Even if the posterior cruciate ligament tears off completely, reconstructing it is not always necessary. It will only be done if the patient feels the knee is unstable, felt mainly when going down the stairs.

A treatment where a brace is worn in time after the injury can in many cases improve the stability of the knee. In this case, the brace should be worn day and night for 8 weeks.

If the posterior cruciate ligament does not function properly, this sometimes leads to sagging and the development of wear and tear on the kneecap. Therefore, in some cases, it may be appropriate to make a new posterior cruciate ligament. A tendon is used for this purpose, usually a tendon of your own and in some cases a donor tendon.
