Radiofrequency ablation of the sphenopalatine ganglion (heat treatment for facial pain)

SERVICE(S): Pain Clinic

Treatment of the sphenopalatine ganglion is used for certain types of facial pain.

Pulsed radiofrequency is a heat treatment in which, in this case, the sphenopalatine ganglion (nerve node in the face) is punctured and selectively warmed up. The block is usually preceded by a diagnostic block of the sphenopalatine ganglion. This can reduce or even eliminate the pain in some cases.

One-day admission may be required.
