Removal of tonsils or tonsillectomy or amygdalotomy

The tonsils are removed through the oral cavity. The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia. When the tonsils are removed, an open wound remains on both sides of the throat, which heals in 2 to 3 weeks. After the procedure, patients usually have a sore throat, to be treated with pain relief medication. Adapted (soft and liquid) food is also recommended.
