Constipation or diarrhoea

The treatment of constipation or diarrhoea can sometimes lead to the healing of fissures. An acute fissure is preferably treated conservatively (i.e. not surgically). Thus, 90% of acute fissures heal without surgery.

Conservative therapy implies relieving the constipation, promoting soft stool habits: a high-fibre diet (vegetable fibres such as brown or wholemeal bread, bran...), fibre supplements (bulking agents), laxatives (stool softeners), and sufficient fluid intake.

These measures thus promote healing. Likewise, a high-fibre diet will help with diarrhoea problems. In addition, warm sitting baths (for 10 to 20') provide pain relief and relax the sphincter.
