A mouth abscess can have many causes. Usually, one of the teeth or molars is the problem (see also ‘dental abscess’), but abscesses can also originate in other structures in the mouth such as the gums, salivary glands, etc. Each of these situations requires a specific approach, sometimes with medication, sometimes with minor surgery by the oral surgeon.
