Asthma

Asthma is a chronic lung disease in which the airways are inflamed to a greater or lesser degree. This chronic inflammation causes narrowing of the airways, making it more difficult for air to enter the lungs.

The patient feels short of breath, often coughs and often brings up phlegm; in addition, there is sometimes wheezing. The condition is chronic, but can be treated successfully. In fact, every asthmatic should be able to lead a completely normal life.

Asthmatics are affected by inhaled stimuli such as cold air, strong smells and cigarette smoke. They can also be allergic to, for example, pollen, dust mites, animals, etc.

Not only the lungs react to these “allergens”; often, the nasal mucosa is also very sensitive and symptoms arise, such as a stuffy nose, runny nose and sneezing. Asthma can develop at any age; very often, young persons are affected. Often, the condition is hereditary.
