The upper jaw can break in various ways.
Sometimes fractures in the upper jaw are limited to the bone surrounding the teeth which may have become displaced or loose as a result. The oral surgeon will then move the teeth back to their correct position and stabilise them using a metal brace that can be removed after a few weeks.
If the upper jaw is fractured in another place, it may be necessary to fix the fractures using plates and screws. This is done through a few incisions on the inside of the cheek and upper lip so that you will not be left with a visible scar.
The doctor will discuss the treatment options with you in detail.
