Normally the permanent canines erupt around the age of 10. Sometimes this does not happen spontaneously, for example because there is insufficient space in the dental arch or because the canine is in an abnormal position.
The canines are, in any case, very important teeth in your mouth, not only for aesthetics but also to obtain a stable bite.
If your orthodontist notices a problem with one of the canines that is erupting, he may refer you to an oral surgeon.
