Meniscal tear

The meniscus acts as a key shock absorber in the knee. It is possible for it to tear.

In younger people, this is often due to a wrong movement, such as a wrong turning movement when playing sports. In older people, this is more often due to wear and tear.

Some meniscal tears cause few problems. In that case, surgery is not necessary and an injection with cortisone can relieve the symptoms. In the event that a meniscal tear is causing discomfort, it can be treated. This is always done through keyhole surgery.
