Overweight in children

It is estimated that 10 to just under 20% of Belgian children are overweight. Even toddlers are already overweight.

Parents often mistakenly think they will grow out of it. We know, however, that the older the child and the more markedly overweight he/she is, the greater the likelihood that the overweight will persist into adulthood.

BMI (Body Mass Index) scores are calculated for children, just as with adults. These are age-dependent and of course also differ according to gender. BMI is mapped using percentile curves. A child with an excess BMI is overweight.

To make overweight children fit again in a healthy way, the Jan Yperman Hospital set up the group Slim Together. For further information, you can contact this team.
