The Clinical Biology Laboratory supports the provision of care by performing laboratory tests necessary for diagnostic purposes and disease monitoring. These tests can easily be requested by both specialists within the hospital and general practitioners. Tests are performed with the latest technology, innovations are closely followed by the team of clinical biologists.
The laboratory strives to provide the best possible service, with the focus on the best care for the patient.
Urgent examinations take place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
In addition, requests within and outside the hospital are made safely and efficiently thanks to the electronic request system.

As a non-hospitalised patient, you will visit our department when samples are collected. Samples can be handed in or collected:
In case of hospitalisation, the samples will be taken by doctors or nurses. These samples are transported to the lab by tube mail or by a logistics team.
Your doctor can access the results digitally, via the central medical dossier.
The Clinical Biology Laboratory examines human body fluids. The main body fluids are blood, urine, stool, wound fluids, bronchopulmonary samples (e.g. flumes), semen and spinal fluid.
Within the laboratory, we distinguish several professional sub-disciplines corresponding to different medical fields:
The five clinical biology specialist guarantee the quality of the tests and are available for diagnostic advice.
A team of 27.5 full-time equivalents, all A1 trained medical laboratory technologists (lab technicians) under the supervision of the clinical biologists, will carry out the requested analyses.
They use the latest tools and methods, which are continuously updated.
The vast majority of analyses are carried out by about 20 different types of laboratory devices and the results are sent directly to a central laboratory information system.
A 24-hour presence is ensured for the performance of common analyses of general chemistry, haematology and blood coagulation.
The samples are kept in the laboratory for a certain period of time so that additional analyses can be performed and a new sample collection may not be necessary.
The laboratory participates in numerous quality control programmes imposed by the FPS Public Health.
The laboratory has been accredited according to the international ISO 15189 standard since 2014. This standard is specifically applicable to medical laboratories. The accreditation is granted by BELAC, the Belgian Accreditation Body of the FPS Economy.
