Rubber band ligation can be applied for grade I, II and sometimes grade III internal haemorrhoids.
During an anuscopy, your doctor grasps the haemorrhoid and places a rubber ring at the base. This ring cuts off the blood supply to the haemorrhoid, which will fall off after a week. A small amount of blood loss may indicate that the nodule and the ring have been lost.
Your doctor may place 1-3 bands per session and several visits may be necessary.
As a result of the treatment, you may experience a vague pain or pressure for up to three days after the ring is placed. A painkiller such as Ibuprofen will give adequate relief. After the complete treatment with ligation, you should continue with dietary and lifestyle modifications.
