A sacrospinous fixation is an operation to restore support to the uterus or vaginal vault (in women who have had a hysterectomy).
Through an incision in the vagina, stitches are passed first through a strong ligament (sacrospine ligament) in the pelvis and then through the cervix. The stitches are permanent. The scar tissue formed supports the vagina or uterus.
This procedure can be combined with a procedure for bladder or rectum prolapse or stress incontinence.
