Transurethral resection of bladder tumour (TURB)

SERVICE(S): Urology

In a TURB, the present growth (polyp or tumour) is removed from the bladder through the urethra.

An electric loop will be used to cut the tissue into slivers. The urologist does this with an instrument with a camera that can be inserted into the bladder through the urethra. Afterwards, the removed tissue is rinsed out of the bladder and sent for tissue examination.
